Running out of propane is a hassle. It’s also expensive: Runouts can result in pressure problems and leaks, so we are required to perform (and charge you for) pressure testing. That’s why it’s important to know how to check your propane level—especially if you’re a will-call customer.
The good news is that reading the gauge on your tank to check your propane level is as easy as reading the fuel gauge in your car.
An important difference to remember is that, even right after a delivery, your tank will never be filled to more than 80%. That’s because propane needs room to expand when it gets warm.
The gauge looks a lot like a speedometer, with numbers going around the edge, and a single pointer. The numbers indicate what percent of gas is in your tank. If you have an above-ground propane storage tank, you’ll find the gas gauge right at the top of the tank, usually under a lid or dome. On underground tanks, the gauge is near the fill pipe.
If your propane gauge had a warning light like the one on your car, it would flash when your propane level is nearing 20%. If your tank falls below that level, it can lose pressure, which leads to problems with equipment. It’s best to call for a propane delivery before your tank falls below 20%. That gives us time to schedule a delivery before your tank gets too low.
Since your propane tank doesn’t have a warning light, we’ve got several ways to help you avoid running out of fuel without having to constantly worry about checking your propane level.
Customers love Miami Gas’s automatic delivery service. It makes your life easier because it removes the task of scheduling propane deliveries from your to-do list. In fact, you don’t even need to remember to check your tank level. With automatic delivery we take care of making sure you always have plenty of propane in your tank and you can rest easy knowing we won’t let you run out.
Our automatic delivery service uses an algorithm based on your typical usage and the weather. All we ask is that you let us know if you make a change that will affect your propane use: add a new propane appliance, or have more people living in your house for an extended period using hot water, for example.
Automatic delivery service makes things easier on our end too. We’re better able to plan deliveries, and use the most efficient routes to get to everyone quickly. That saves time and money—savings we can pass on to you.
Automatic deliveries aren’t the best solution for everyone. Since many of our customers travel often, or only use their Miami-area home seasonally or occasionally, their propane use fluctuates. That’s when the real-time accuracy of our wireless propane tank monitoring service makes a difference.
A wireless tank monitor tracks the level of propane in your tank in real time, and transmits your usage via wireless cellular technology. When the tank gauge reaches a pre-set level, the monitor alerts us—and you—directly via the wireless mobile app.
Whether you like old-fashioned will call, or want to learn more about our wireless tank monitoring or automatic delivery service, Miami Gas is committed to reliable on-time propane deliveries for your home or business. Contact us today to learn more and become a customer.
